In this article—forthcoming in Educational Researcher—Scott Latham, Jennifer Jennings, Carolyn Sattin-Bajaj, and I examine the distribution of pre-K quality measures in NYC by student race/ethnicity. On average, the measured quality of pre-K programs in NYC is high. However, there are sizable disparities in the quality of pre-K programs experienced by Black and White students. These gaps are explained in part—though not entirely—by differences in spatial proximity to the highest quality programs.
